Created inside an archeology of the uptown New York City apartment inhabited by legendary performance/drag queen Mother Flawless Sabrina, At least you know: you exist is a site-specific exploration of a fixed space where everything is in a state of change. Known as Jack to those close to him, he has lived in the same apartment at 5 East 73rd Street for more than 45 years—a crowded, unwieldy place that fiercely pronounces his rejection of conformity. In this 16mm film, totemic mystical objects act as a collection of mysterious sculptures in different states of mutation, and rich layers of feverish history interface with a new vision of transgender performativity. Navigating the real and the unconscious, oscillating between documentary and myth narrative, Zackary Drucker weaves a fluid, parallel text of these two divergent lives, exploring a legacy being passed from a lost generation towards the future.

Filmed at the peak of autumn foliage in a rural Midwestern US locale, this non-narrative collaboration posits beauty and fear as inextricable from the psyche of the American landscape. Contemplative moments and stunning vistas are jarringly punctuated with the vocabularies of witch-hunts, hate crimes and psychological violence.

ZACKARY DRUCKER earned a MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2007 and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2005. She has performed and exhibited her work internationally in numerous museums, galleries, and film festivals including the 54th Venice Biennale—Swiss Off-Site Pavilion; Curtat Tunnel, Lausanne, Switzerland; L.U.C.C.A. Museum of Contemporary Art, Lucca, IT; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA; Deitch Projects, Leo Koenig Inc. The Umpire Whispers is an exploration of the intimacy that arises between a swimming coach and his athlete. In the film, the swimmer returns to meet her coach five years after having quit competitive swimming at the Wingate institute of Sport during the national championships, where her last and final meet took place. The swimmer, now artists requests to recreate a recurring situation between the two, in which she give her massage and she massages him in return and thereafter discuss her performance as a swimmer, her difficulties and her character.

Jumana Manna's videos are attempts at weaving together portraits of morally dubious characters or events, and her sculptural practice entails a disfiguring of familiar objects, de-bunked from their designated function and re-presented in a state of abjection or defeat.

JUMANA MANNA was educated at Bezalel Academy of Arts (Jerusalem) National Academy of the Arts (Oslo) and CalArts (Los Angeles). Recent exhibitions and screenings include Film Society Lincoln center (NY), Postmasters Gallery (NY), Toronto Film Festival, Vox Populli (Philadelphia), Kunsthall Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), and Petakh Tikva Museum (IL). She is short listed for the Young Artist Award in Palestine (2012). Upcoming shows include Kunsthall Oslo, CRG Gallery(NY), UKS (Oslo) and The Company (Los Angeles).
